Helping Hoarders, England, Scotland & Wales

A message from Countrywide House Clearance owner

Here at Countrywide we specialise in helping hoarders, my own mum was and still is to some extent a hoarder and has been for decades, this is why we got into this area of hoarding house clearance help. We managed to help my own mum to declutter her property of the kind of stuff she had accumulated over decades she no longer needed, wanted or had any use for.

At times it was hard for her and us kids growing up living in a home extremely cluttered, from mountains of clothing and books, teddy bears and a house full of pets (it was like Jumanji in our home), to an almost obsession with not throwing anything away, either inherited or personaly purchased.

BUT TODAY she is mostly over her hoarding issues (there is no one stop easy fix despite what many so-called experts will say, trust me, we've been down many a path..., this is a serious mental health disorder) and now has a nice oragnised, clutter free home (compared to what it used to be like anyway...).

A home which is safe, habitable and above all else manageable as she gets older and is now a pleasure to visit as sons, daughers, relatives, friends and her beloved grand-children. It never used to be that way...

We can help you, just pick up the phone and I will personally answer it and be there to chat to you with no obligations in a non judgemental friendly manner. My name is Chris - call today if you are suffering and need help, any help...

A genuine customer testimonial who we have helped in the past:

"I'm a hoarder, and dealing with the clutter in my home seemed like an overwhelming task. That's when I found Countrywide, and I can't express enough how grateful I am for their exceptional service.

Chris and his team were absolutely amazing. They arrived on time, ready to tackle the challenge at hand. Despite the daunting amount of clutter, they remained professional, understanding, and respectful throughout the entire process. With efficiency and care, they managed to clear several van loads of items, bringing back much-needed space and a sense of relief to my home.

As someone who is disabled and suffers from extreme anxiety, their patience and willingness to accommodate my specific needs were truly appreciated. I highly recommend Countrywide to anyone in need of professional, compassionate, and reliable hoarding help."

Understanding Hoarding

Hoarding is a compulsive behaviour that involves excessive accumulation of items and reluctance to discard or get rid of them, even if they are of no value or use. This behaviour can have a significant impact on a person's life, relationships, and mental health. It is a complex and challenging issue that requires understanding and support from society.

Hoarding is not just about having a messy or cluttered living space. It is a serious mental health disorder that affects millions of people worldwide. It is estimated that 2-6% of the population struggles with hoarding, and it affects people of all ages, genders, and backgrounds. Hoarding can start as early as adolescence and can continue throughout a person's lifetime if left untreated.

The reasons behind hoarding are not fully understood, but it is believed to be a combination of genetic, environmental, and psychological factors. People who hoard often have difficulty making decisions and have a strong emotional attachment to their possessions. They may also have perfectionist tendencies and fear of making mistakes, leading to an overwhelming need to keep everything.

Hoarding can have severe consequences on a person's life. It can lead to social isolation, strained relationships with family and friends, financial problems, and even legal issues. Hoarding can also cause health and safety hazards, such as fire hazards, mould, and infestations. The living conditions of a hoarder are often unhygienic and unsafe, posing a significant risk to their physical well-being.

Furthermore, hoarding can also take a toll on a person's mental health. It can lead to anxiety, depression, and other mental health disorders. The shame and embarrassment of hoarding can make it challenging for individuals to seek help, and they often live in denial of their problem. This can result in a vicious cycle of hoarding, where the person continues to accumulate items to cope with their emotional distress.

Hoarding not only affects the hoarder but also their loved ones. Family members and friends may struggle to understand the behaviour and may become frustrated and resentful. This can create a rift in relationships, leading to further isolation for the hoarder. It is essential for families to educate themselves about hoarding and offer support and understanding to their loved ones.

The treatment for hoarding involves a combination of therapy, medication, and support from loved ones. Therapy, such as cognitive-behavioural therapy, can help individuals understand the root cause of their hoarding behaviour and develop strategies to manage it. Medication can also be prescribed to treat underlying mental health issues, such as anxiety and depression.

Support from the community is crucial in helping those who hoard. Society's perception of hoarding needs to change from judgment and ridicule to understanding and compassion. Hoarding is a mental health disorder, and individuals struggling with it need support and understanding, not judgment.

In conclusion, hoarding is a complex and challenging issue that requires a comprehensive approach to address it. It is essential to educate ourselves about hoarding and its impact on individuals and their loved ones. We must also strive to create a supportive and empathetic society that encourages those who hoard to seek help without fear of judgment. With understanding and support, individuals struggling with hoarding can overcome this disorder and lead a healthier, happier life.
